Standard EN SampleStandard for Shop Fabricated Steel Aboveground Tanks for Flammable and Combustible Liquids
Also Known As:
The CAN ULC-S601-14-REV1 2019 standard provides minimum requirements for steel, non-pressure tanks used for the aboveground storage of flammable and combustible liquids. These tanks must be compatible with the material of construction and have a specific gravity not greater than 1.0. The standard also mentions that these tanks can be used for the storage of used oil, but there are specific requirements for tanks intended solely for this purpose, which are covered in a separate standard (CAN/ULC-S652).
The standard emphasizes that tanks fabricated in accordance with this standard are not intended for the transportation of flammable and combustible liquids. They are specifically designed for stationary installations. However, the relocation of tanks, other than utility tanks, is subject to the requirements of the authority having jurisdiction.
The standard further specifies that it covers the construction of single wall tanks as well as tanks with secondary containment. It also includes provisions for aboveground steel, rectangular, non-pressure workbench tanks used for both working surfaces and storage of lubricating oils, with capacities up to and including 2500 L. Additionally, the standard covers aboveground steel, rectangular, non-pressure generator-base tanks. Furthermore, utility tanks and double bottom utility tanks, designed to be installed in various locations such as farms, construction sites, and forestry operations, are also addressed.
However, it's important to note that the standard does not cover wind loading or seismic loading of tanks. Guidelines for maximum structural limitations concerning vertical tanks are included in Appendix A as informative, explanatory materials.
