Standard ENLow Speed Thorax Impact Test Procedure for the HIII5F Dummy
Also Known As: SAE J2878_201606
The SAE J 2878:2016 standard establishes a recommended practice for conducting a Low Speed Thorax Impact Test on the Hybrid III Small Female Anthropomorphic Test Device (ATD). The purpose of this test is to meet the industry's need for a certification test that yields peak chest deflection similar to the current full vehicle frontal impact tests. The current certification procedure for thorax impact tests has resulted in higher peak chest deflections than those observed in full vehicle frontal tests.
This standard aims to address this issue by developing a low-speed thorax certification procedure specifically for the H-III5F dummy. The impact speed for this test is set at 3.0 m/s, which is similar to the SAE J2779 procedure used for the H-III50M dummy. By implementing this procedure, the goal is to achieve more realistic and comparable peak chest deflection results in the certification testing of the H-III5F dummy.
