Standard EN SampleStandard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in Low-Rise Residential Occupancies
Also Known As:
The NFPA 13R-2022 standard is an essential resource for installers and contractors involved in the installation of sprinkler systems in low-rise residential buildings. This updated edition provides comprehensive requirements for system installation, including water supply and system acceptance measures.
First published in 1989, NFPA 13R was created to enhance life safety and property security for occupants of low-rise multifamily dwellings. By adhering to the requirements outlined in this standard, installers and contractors can ensure the safe and accurate installation of sprinkler systems in such residential occupancies.
The 2022 edition of NFPA 13R introduces several updates and revisions. Notably, it includes a revised method for determining freezing risks and the need for protection based on current temperature data. Criteria for protecting pipes and tubes from mechanical damage are now addressed in Chapter 5, and ceiling pocket protection requirements for quick-response sprinklers are introduced in Chapter 6. The obstruction tables have also been modified for easier use.
Additionally, the new edition includes a section dedicated to system operational tests and main drain valves for system acceptance in Chapter 10. The Contractor's Material and Test Certificate for Aboveground Piping has been relocated to Annex A, along with updated fire data tables.
