Standard EN SampleClothing for protection against heat and flame - Determination of heat transmission on exposure to both flame and radiant heat
Also Known As:
The JIS T 8024:2009 standard specifies a test method for measuring the heat transmission of flame-resistant textile materials when exposed to a combination of convective and radiant energy. The test is performed on horizontally mounted materials, and it can be used for single layer or multilayer constructions made of flame-resistant materials. The standard emphasizes that it should not be used on materials that are not flame resistant and that it is not applicable for evaluating materials exposed to radiant heat only or flame contact only.
The purpose of this standard is to measure and describe the properties of materials, products, or assemblies in response to both convective and radiant energy under controlled laboratory conditions. It is not meant to appraise the fire hazard or fire risk of materials in actual fire conditions. However, the results obtained from this test method can be used as part of a fire-risk assessment, which considers various factors relevant to the fire hazard of a specific end-use.
The standard also mentions that the corresponding international standard is ISO 17492:2003, which has some level of correspondence with JIS T 8024:2009.
