ULC-S318-1996 (R2016) PDF Download

The ULC-S318-1996 (R2016) standard has been reaffirmed and there have been no technical changes made to the standard. This standard specifically excludes power supplies that are already covered in other ULC standards, including those for central and monitoring station burglar alarm systems, installation and classification of burglar alarm systems for financial and commercial premises, local burglar alarm units and systems, intrusion detection units, residential burglar alarm system units, and proprietary burglar alarm system units.

According to the standard, the primary source of power for these power supplies should be primary or secondary alternating current (ac). Additionally, the class 2 circuits used in these power supplies should meet the requirements of the Canadian Electrical Code, CSA Part I. The standard focuses on power supplies that are designed to be used as components in burglar alarm systems.
