Standard EN SampleStandard Method for Flame Tests of Flame-Resistant Fabrics and Films
Also Known As:
The CAN ULC-S109-14 standard outlines the requirements for the performance of flame-resistant fabrics and films. These fabrics and films can be made of natural, synthetic, or a combination of natural and synthetic fibers, or plastic films, and are commonly used for purposes such as tents, awnings, draperies, and decorations.
The standard specifies that the flame resistance of the fabric or film can be inherent in the material or achieved through chemical treatment to retard ignition and the spread of flame. However, it is important to note that this standard does not apply to fabrics and films intended for clothing or materials used as interior finishes for surfaces of buildings.
If fabrics and films are backed by a substrate, they should be tested according to the requirements in CAN/ULC-S102 for surface burning characteristics of building materials and assemblies. Similarly, for the evaluation of roof coverings, the requirements in CAN/ULC-S107 for fire tests of roof coverings should be followed.
The fabrics and films covered by this standard are intended to be used in accordance with the requirements set out in the National Building Code of Canada. This edition of the standard includes updates related to the equipment used for weathering tests, the addition of a test report section, and editorial modifications within the standard.
