Standard EN SampleStandard Method of Fire Tests of Firestop Systems
Also Known As:
The CAN ULC-S115-2011 (R2016) standard outlines the testing procedures for firestop systems used in fire resistive wall and floor assemblies. The standard is applicable to firestop systems with or without penetrating items such as cables, conduits, and pipes.
The purpose of this test method is to evaluate the performance of firestop systems during a fire-test exposure under laboratory conditions. However, it should be noted that passing these tests does not necessarily indicate the suitability of the firestop system for use after exposure to fire.
The standard also includes provisions for testing the resistance of firestop systems to external forces simulated by a hose stream. However, this does not determine the performance of the firestop system under actual fire conditions when subjected to forces like failure of cable support systems or falling debris.
Additional provisions are included for testing the air leakage rate through the test specimens resulting from a specified air pressure difference. This data assists in determining the acceptability of firestop systems in controlling air movement.
It is important to note that this test method is not applicable to joint firestop systems placed in perimeter joints between a fire-rated floor and a non-fire-rated exterior wall.
