Standard EN SampleStandard Method of Test for Fire Spread Under Roof-Deck Assemblies
Also Known As:
The CAN ULC-S126-14 (R2019) standard addresses the issue of fire spread in interior buildings caused by specific combinations of adhesives, vapour barriers, insulating materials, and roof coverings used in roof-deck assemblies. This standard provides a test method for assessing the fire spread of such assemblies, both metallic and non-metallic, when exposed to fire within a building.
The test method described in this standard utilizes the 7.6 m tunnel test apparatus outlined in the CAN/ULC-S102 standard, which is the Standard Method of Test for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials and Assemblies. The spread of flame on the underside of the roof-deck assemblies is measured and compared to the results obtained from large-scale fire tests conducted in a 30.5 m by 6.0 m building, in order to establish limits for flame spread.
The assemblies used to determine these limits are selected based on their known contribution to fire spread, as observed in actual installations. The goal of this standard is not to provide a fire resistance rating, such as those obtained through the CAN/ULC-S101 standard, which covers fire endurance tests for building construction and materials.
