Standard EN SampleStandard for Metallic and Nonmetallic Underground Piping for Flammable and Combustible Liquids
Also Known As:
The Standard for Metallic and Nonmetallic Underground Piping for Flammable and Combustible Liquids (CAN ULC-S679-2017) outlines the minimum requirements for different types of underground piping systems used for the distribution and venting applications of flammable and combustible liquids. This includes petroleum-based fuels, alcohols, and alcohol-blended fuels.
The standard defines flammable and combustible liquids as substances such as gasoline, fuel oil, kerosene, and diesel fuel, including gasoline with small amounts of additives and gasoline with ethanol blends up to 15%.
The standard covers three types of piping systems: metallic, composite, and nonmetallic thermoplastic and thermoset plastic. These systems are evaluated for assembly in normal soil applications and are intended for underground use only. The standard does not cover applications in sumps, connector pipes, aboveground or marine use, or applications involving high temperatures.
The products covered by this standard should be installed and used in accordance with other relevant documents, such as the National Fire Code of Canada, Part 4, and the Environmental Code of Practice for Aboveground and Underground Storage Tank Systems Containing Petroleum and Allied Petroleum Products.
