Standard EN SampleStandard for Water Fire Extinguishers
Also Known As:
The CAN ULC-S507-05 standard, also known as the Standard for Water Fire Extinguishers, is a set of requirements for the construction and performance of water fire extinguishers. This standard is the Fourth edition of CAN/ULC-S507 and the Eighth edition of ANSI/UL 626. It specifically covers water fire extinguishers that are stored-pressure and use a single chamber for both the extinguishing agent and the expellant gas.
The purpose of this standard is to ensure that water fire extinguishers meet certain safety and performance criteria. These extinguishers are intended to be used in accordance with the Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers (NFPA 10) and the National Fire Code of Canada. They may be charged with plain water, an antifreeze, or a loaded-stream solution.
It is important to note that while this standard covers the construction and performance of water fire extinguishers, it does not address their performance during fire testing. The requirements for performance during fire testing are specified in the Binational Standard for Rating and Fire Testing of Fire Extinguishers (ANSI/UL 711/CAN/ULC-S508).
