The CAN ULC-S664-2017 standard is a set of minimum requirements for containment sumps, sump fittings, and accessories that are used for the storage and containment of flammable and combustible liquids. These products are typically installed below- or at-grade and are used to enclose and provide access to underground piping, connector piping, and other components of fueling systems. They are designed for commercial or private automotive fueling stations, as well as for fuel supply systems of generators and burners.

Containment sumps can be made of metallic, nonmetallic, or composite materials and can be either primary or secondary constructions. There are different types of containment sumps, including tank sumps, dispenser sumps, transition sumps, and fill/vent sumps, each serving a specific purpose in the fueling system.

The products covered by this standard are intended to be installed and used in accordance with other relevant documents, such as the National Fire Code of Canada, CSA B139 (Installation code for oil-burning equipment), and CCME PN 1326 (Environmental Code of Practice for Aboveground and Underground Storage Tank Systems). They are factory manufactured and require on-site assembly, inspection, and leak testing by qualified individuals following the manufacturer's instructions and local requirements.

It is important to periodically inspect and maintain these products to ensure their continued serviceability. They have not been evaluated for use after natural disasters, fires, exposure to chemicals not representative of the test liquids, or excessive physical damage beyond normal assembly, installation, and use. They are not designed for applications involving heavy or continuous physical abuses, excessive mechanical stresses, or environments that operate outside the expected atmospheric conditions and ambient use temperature range.

This standard does not cover underground piping products or connector piping products, as those are addressed in separate standards (CAN/ULC-S660 and CAN/ULC-S633, respectively).
