Intrusion Detection Units
Also Known As:
The ULC-S306-03 (+ Corrections until 2005) standard outlines requirements for the installation and operation of intrusion-detection units used in burglary protection signaling systems. These units are designed to automatically indicate the presence of an intruder by activating electrical control circuits. They are intended for use in both outdoor and indoor (nonhazardous) locations.
An intrusion detector, as defined by this standard, consists of one or more unit assemblies of electrical components that are specifically designed to detect the presence, movement, sound, or other activity of an intruder. The standard also provides guidelines for the proper connection of power supply, remote control, and signal circuits through a prescribed method of wiring.
It is important to note that the installation of intrusion-detection units should be in accordance with the applicable standards for installation and classification of burglar alarm systems. For financial and commercial premises, safes, and vaults, the standard CAN/ULC-S302-M91 should be followed. For residential burglar alarm systems, the standard CAN/ULC-S310-M91 is recommended.
This standard was published on 9/30/1989 and has undergone corrections until 2005 to ensure its reliability and effectiveness. It provides a comprehensive framework for the installation and classification of intrusion-detection units, ensuring the safety and security of premises against unauthorized entry.
