Standard EN SampleStandard Method of Fire Tests for Non-Metallic Electrical and Optical Fiber Cable Raceway Systems
Also Known As:
The CAN ULC-S143-14 (R2019) standard provides requirements for non-metallic raceway systems used to enclose electrical wires, cables, and optical fiber cables. These raceway systems must be designed to meet a FT4 rating, which indicates a higher level of fire resistance. The standard applies to raceway systems used in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1, and the National Building Code of Canada.
The standard covers non-metallic raceway systems suitable for single insulated conductor and multi-conductor cables, which can be installed horizontally or vertically. It also includes provisions for optional measurement of light obscuration in the combustion stream in the exhaust duct. This measurement can provide additional information about the fire behavior of the raceway system.
In this updated edition, the reference to the classification of tested raceways (Class A and B) has been removed. Instead, the standard aligns with the performance requirement for FT4 rated raceways as specified in the National Building Code of Canada. This ensures that the fire resistance of the raceway systems meets the necessary standards for safety in electrical installations.
