Standard EN SampleStandard Method of Test for the Evaluation of Protective Coverings for Foamed Plastic Insulation - Full-Scale Room Test
Also Known As:
The CAN ULC-S145-2018 standard focuses on assessing the fire growth contribution of protective coverings over foamed plastic insulation. The test method, conducted in accordance with CAN/ULC-9705, measures the time to flashover, smoke obscuration, rate of fire growth, and rate of heat release of the protective covering and foamed plastic insulation room lining.
It is important to note that this standard does not determine the fire resistance rating of wall or ceiling assemblies lined with foamed plastic insulation and a protective covering. Nor does it address the identification of products of combustion or associated risks.
The standard provides classifications of 10 minutes and 20 minutes, which are distinct from classifications specified in CAN/ULC-S124, the standard for evaluating thermal barriers for foamed plastic. The appendix of the standard highlights the differences between CAN ULC-S145-2018 and CAN/ULC-S124.
The standard acknowledges that the exposure test described may not be representative of all fire conditions and that actual conditions may vary based on factors such as fire loading, ventilation, and assembly configuration. Therefore, this standard offers a relative measure of fire performance under the specified fire exposure conditions.
