Standard EN SampleStandard Method of Fire Test of Exterior Wall Assemblies
Also Known As:
The CAN ULC-S134-13-REV1 2019 standard is a test method that evaluates the performance of exterior wall assemblies in simulated fire conditions. It specifically assesses the fire exposure resulting from a post-flashover fire in a compartment venting through an opening in the wall.
The purpose of this test method is to determine the comparative burning characteristics of exterior wall assemblies by evaluating the fire spread over the exterior surface, the heat flow from the fire plume to the exterior surface, and the fire spread within the test specimen. It is important to note that the results of this test may not reflect the actual performance of an exterior wall assembly under all fire exposure conditions.
However, it is worth mentioning that this standard does not assess the fire performance of framing details or treatments of windows, doors, or other openings that may be used in combination with the test specimen. It also does not evaluate the fire performance of the test specimen when exposed to the effects of an interior fire migrating through an exterior wall assembly, nor does it evaluate the loadbearing capabilities of the exterior wall.
The revised edition of the standard includes further clarification on the termination point of the test and introduces acceptance criteria in accordance with the requirements of the National Building Code of Canada. These updates aim to provide additional clarity and alignment with building code regulations.
