Standard for Installation of Fire Alarm Systems

The CAN ULC-S524-2019 standard provides requirements for the design and installation of fire alarm systems with or without voice communication capability. This standard applies to both mandatory and voluntary fire alarm installations.
The standard recognizes that fire alarm systems may have additional features or functions that enhance life safety or the protection of buildings or property. These additional features or functions must meet certain criteria outlined in the standard.
Annex A of the standard provides explanatory materials to further clarify the requirements.
For devices not covered by the standard, the installation must adhere to good engineering practices and the manufacturer's published installation instructions. Additionally, the standard references other applicable standards for the installation of specific devices, such as smoke alarms, fire signal receiving centers, ancillary devices connected to fire alarm systems, mass notification system equipment and accessories, gas and vapor detectors and sensors, and integrated systems testing of fire protection and life safety systems.
