Standard EN SampleSpecification for Testing Gas Discharge Light Source Subsystem
Also Known As: SAE USCAR27-1
SAE USCAR 27-1:2022 is a standard that specifies the testing requirements for Gas Discharge Light Source (GDLS) subsystems used in passenger vehicles. The purpose of this specification is to ensure that the GDLS subsystem meets the design, performance, and validation requirements established by government standards.
The GDLS subsystem includes the ballast, igniter, and light source, and is considered as one test sample for the entire test sequence. If any component within the subsystem fails during testing, it is considered a failure of the entire sample. However, the light source can be replaced during testing, but if it fails more than once in a tested system, it is considered a failure of the GDLS.
This document emphasizes the importance of providing test data to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) by the Tier one lamp set maker as part of the lamp assembly Production Part Approval Process (PPAP). Additionally, if there are any design, manufacturing, or component changes to the approved GDLS, re-testing is required.
It is important to note that individual OEMs may require additional tests to meet specific objectives related to Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), quality, reliability, and durability.
