Notable additions to this edition include a new subsection addressing trenches for solids-collecting conveyors, as well as a new subsection in Annex A that provides references to assessment methods for determining the need for lightning protection. Section 8.2 has also been revised for consistency with NFPA 30: Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, clarifying the requirements for normal and emergency venting.

Another significant revision involves the rewriting of all exceptions in enforceable, mandatory language. This ensures that the exceptions are clear and can be properly followed.
