Standard EN SampleStandard on Water Additives for Fire Control and Vapor Mitigation
Also Known As:
NFPA 18A-2017 is a standard that provides guidance for the use of water additives in fire control and flammable vapor mitigation. The standard has been updated with major technical changes to help fire departments effectively use water additives to prevent the spread of fire.
The standard includes information for industry professionals involved in the purchasing, testing, listing, and use of water additives. These additives, when added to water in the appropriate quantities, act as agents that suppress, cool, mitigate fire and/or vapors, and provide insulation for fuels exposed to radiant heat or direct flame impingement.
The 2017 edition of NFPA 18A includes a new chapter that addresses Class C fire test methods, which provide safe limits for fire attack on energized electrical equipment. The standard has also undergone editorial changes to align its structure with other NFPA codes and standards. In addition, references throughout the standard have been updated.
