Also Known As:
The NFPA 1964-2018 standard aims to enhance the safety and effectiveness of spray nozzles and other hose-connected appliances used for firefighting purposes. This standard provides the most up-to-date performance requirements for new adjustable-pattern spray nozzles that are intended for general firefighting use, marine and offshore platform fire-fighting use, or for use with fire hoses connected to standpipe systems.
The 2018 edition of NFPA 1964 expands its scope to include other fire hose appliances as well. It incorporates relevant material from the former NFPA 1965 standard, titled "Standard for Fire Hose Appliances." The standard now encompasses basic performance and operational requirements for fire hose appliances with a nominal dimension of up to 150 mm (6 in.) that are designed to be connected to fire hoses, fire apparatus, and fire hydrants. These appliances are intended for general fire service use in controlling or conveying water.
The provisions of NFPA 1964-2018 cover various aspects of spray nozzles and hose-connected appliances, including operational design, construction materials, test methods, and compliance testing. This edition of the standard is essential for manufacturers of nozzles and hose appliances, as well as for fire departments and companies involved in the testing of fire hoses.
