Standard EN SampleCode for High Power Rocketry
Also Known As:
NFPA 1127-2018 is a standard that aims to reduce fire dangers and associated hazards related to high power rocketry activities. The standard provides the latest safety guidelines for the design, construction, and limitation of propellant mass and power in high power rocket motors and motor components. It is intended for use by certified users engaging in educational, recreational, and sporting competition activities.
The 2018 edition of NFPA 1127 has been updated to incorporate current technology relevant to the model rocket hobbyist. One notable change includes the allowance for the installation of an ignition device into a vented hybrid rocket motor at any time. This update acknowledges that there is no hazard until the vented hybrid rocket motors are filled with oxidizer and that this type of motor has been certified for a certain period of time.
Additionally, the 2018 edition includes an update in Annex B, which refers to the National Association of Rocketry's "High Power Model Rocket Safety Code." This update aligns with the current 2012 edition of the safety code.
