Also Known As:
NFPA 1952-2021 is the standard on Surface Water Operations Protective Clothing and Equipment. Its primary goal is to ensure the safety of emergency service personnel engaged in surface water operations such as search and rescue on rivers, surf zones, tidal water, and ice. The standard sets criteria to minimize the risks and health hazards associated with exposure to in-water dangers and climatic factors.
The 2021 edition of NFPA 1952 has been updated for improved usability and consistency. It provides requirements for the design, testing, certification, labeling, and performance of various types of protective clothing and equipment, including dry suits, wet suits, ice suits, gloves, footwear, helmets, and personal flotation devices (PFDs).
Notable changes in the 2021 edition include the addition of a definition for "facility" to align with other referenced documents, clarification on manufacturing in multiple facilities, and revisions to the recertification schedule for easier understanding and application. The dry suit performance requirements have also been updated to align with NFPA 1953 and include permeation resistance testing.
