Standard EN SampleStandard on Protective Clothing and Ensembles for Emergency Medical Operations
Also Known As:
The NFPA 1999-2018 standard aims to provide comprehensive guidelines for the design, performance, testing, and certification requirements of protective clothing used in emergency medical operations. The standard distinguishes between single-use and multiple-use ensembles and outlines the minimum criteria that these ensembles must meet to ensure the safety and health of emergency medical responders and medical first receivers.
One of the significant updates in the 2018 edition is the inclusion of provisions to protect against highly infectious liquid-borne pathogens, such as Ebola viral disease (EVD). The standard now includes new performance requirements for full body protection and a liquid integrity evaluation, which demonstrate the established protective level of performance. Additionally, the standard introduces revisions to design requirements for garments, footwear, and respiratory equipment, as well as requirements for the liquidtight integrity test and puncture resistance test. It also provides a new definition for elastomeric interface materials and sets performance requirements for these items.
