Standard EN SampleStandard for Fire Hose Appliances
Also Known As:
NFPA 1965 is a standard that aims to ensure the usefulness and safety of appliances connected to fire hoses. It establishes basic performance and operational requirements that all hose-connected appliances must meet in order to improve their effectiveness and safety. The standard applies to fire hose appliances up to and including 150 mm (6 in.) nominal dimension and covers appliances designed for connection to fire hose, fire apparatus, and fire hydrants for general fire service use.
NFPA 1965 includes provisions for operational design requirements, construction materials, test methods, and compliance testing. It covers aspects such as certification, sample selection, test results, and design changes. The 2014 edition of the standard introduced new requirements for connections of large-stream devices, which were drawn from NFPA 1963. It also includes clarifications and changes to terminology to promote consistency with other NFPA documents and ASTM standards.
NFPA 1965, along with other NFPA documents addressing fire hose systems, couplings and connections, and nozzles, contributes to a set of standards that provide consistent requirements for the entire fire hose system.
