Standard EN SampleStandard for Water Tanks for Private Fire Protection
Also Known As:
The NFPA 22-2018 standard provides updated requirements for the design, construction, installation, and maintenance of water tanks and associated equipment used in private fire protection systems.
This edition of the standard includes significant revisions aimed at clarifying and streamlining the requirements. One such revision is the update to Chapter 5, which focuses on welded-carbon steel and composite concrete tanks. The duplicate requirements from the AWWA D100 standard have been eliminated, and references to AWWA D100 have been added instead. Similarly, Chapter 6, which deals with factory-coated, bolted carbon steel tanks, has undergone similar revisions to remove duplicate requirements from AWWA D103 and refer to this standard instead.
Chapter 14, titled "Pipe Connections and Fittings," now includes clearer requirements for check valves in the discharge pipe of a suction tank. It also introduces modifications that mandate tank repairs to follow the impairment procedures outlined in NFPA 25, which is the standard for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems.
In Chapter 16, new criteria for electric immersion heaters are presented, along with calculations for determining tank heating needs. These calculations replace the previous reliance on the lowest one-day mean temperature map.
