Standard EN SampleProtective Clothing - Protection Against Heat and Fire - Method of Test: Evaluation of Materials and Material Assemblies When Exposed to a Source of Radiant Heat
Also Known As:
JIS T 8020:2020 is a standard that provides two methods, Method A and Method B, for evaluating the behavior of materials used in protective clothing against heat and fire when exposed to heat radiation. These methods can be applied to both single layer and multi-layer textiles or other materials used in protective clothing, as well as assemblies that represent the overall structure of heat protective clothing with or without underclothing.
Method A is used for visually assessing any changes in the material after exposure to heat radiation, while Method B is used to determine the protective effect of the materials. The materials can be tested using either both methods or just one of them. It is important to note that these tests serve to classify materials, but additional criteria should be considered to assess the suitability of a material for protective clothing.
However, it is worth mentioning that since the tests are conducted at room temperature, the results may not accurately reflect the behavior of the materials at higher ambient temperatures. Therefore, the results should only be used to a limited extent for predicting the performance of the protective clothing made from the tested materials.
Lastly, it is noted that ISO 6942:2002 is the corresponding international standard to JIS T 8020:2020, and it serves as a reference for the degree of correspondence between these two standards.
