Standard EN SampleAcoustics - Hearing protectors - Part 2: Estimation of effective A-weighted sound pressure levels when hearing protectors are worn
Also Known As:
The JIS T 8161-2:2020 standard focuses on the estimation of effective A-weighted sound pressure levels when hearing protectors are worn. It provides three methods for estimation: the octave-band, HML, and SNR methods. These methods can be applied to measure either the sound pressure level or the equivalent continuous sound pressure level of the noise being evaluated. While primarily designed for steady noise exposures, the methods can also be used for noises that contain impulsive components, although they may not be suitable for peak sound pressure level measurements.
The standard emphasizes that the octave-band, H, M, L, or SNR values derived from these methods are useful for establishing sound attenuation criteria. They can be used to select or compare hearing protectors, as well as set minimum acceptable sound attenuation requirements.
It is worth noting that the ISO 4869-2:2018 standard corresponds to JIS T 8161-2:2020, with the degree of correspondence specified as MOD (modified). Additionally, the symbols IDT, MOD, and NEQ are used to denote the degree of correspondence between the content of the relevant international standard and the JIS standard, based on ISO/IEC Guide 21-1.
