Standard EN SampleGraphical Symbols - Safety Colours and Safety Signs - Part 2: Design Principles for Product Safety Labels
Also Known As:
ISO 3864-2:2004 is a standard that establishes principles for the design of safety labels for products. These safety labels are intended to alert individuals to specific hazards and provide information on how to avoid these hazards. The standard applies to all products in all industries where safety-related issues may arise, with the exception of safety labels used for chemicals, transportation of dangerous substances, and sectors subject to different legal regulations.
The design principles outlined in ISO 3864-2:2004 are meant to be used by ISO Technical Committees and anyone involved in the design of product safety labels. It provides guidance for the development of industry-specific safety label standards. This standard is not intended to supersede any statutory or regulatory requirements, but can be considered when revising regulations to facilitate international standardization of product safety labels.
It should be noted that the electronic representation of colours in the standard may not be accurate, and the printed copies of the standard should not be used for colour matching. Instead, reference should be made to the colour specifications provided in ISO 3864-1:2002 and ISO 3864-2:2004, which include colorimetric and photometric properties. The standard also provides references from colour order systems for safety color orange in ISO 3864-2:2004 and other safety colours in ISO 3864-1:2002.
