Soil Quality - Determination of Particle Density
Also Known As:
ISO 11508:2017 is a standard that provides guidelines for determining the particle density of soils. It outlines two methods for calculating particle density based on the mass and volume of soil particles. The first method is suitable for fine soil particles with a diameter less than 2 mm, while the second method is applicable to both porous and nonporous gravel and stones with a diameter greater than 2 mm.
The particle density obtained from these methods can be used to calculate the proportion of solids and the porosity of soil layers when combined with the procedure outlined in ISO 11272. This information is valuable for assessing soil quality and understanding the physical properties of the soil, such as its ability to retain water or support plant growth.
