Safety of Machinery - Permanent Means of Access to Machinery - Part 1: Choice of Fixed Means and General Requirements of Access
Also Known As:
ISO 14122-1:2016 is a standard that provides general requirements and guidance for access to stationary machines. It specifies the correct choice of means of access when direct access to the machine from the ground level or floor is not possible. This standard applies to permanent means of access that are integral to the machine, as well as adjustable and movable parts of fixed means of access.
The standard outlines minimum requirements that also apply to means of access that are part of the building or civil construction where the machine is installed, provided that the main function of that part of the construction is to provide access to the machine. In the absence of local regulations or standards, ISO 14122 can be used for means of access that are outside the scope of the standard.
It is important to note that this standard should be used in conjunction with a relevant access-specific part of ISO 14122. The ISO 14122 series as a whole is applicable to both stationary and mobile machinery that require fixed means of access. However, it does not cover powered means of access like lifts or escalators.
ISO 14122-1:2016 is not applicable to machinery that was manufactured before its publication. The standard also provides a reference to significant hazards covered in Clause 4.
