Road vehicles - Cleanliness of components and systems
Also Known As:
ISO 16232:2018 is a standard that specifies the requirements for determining particulate contamination on components and systems of road vehicles. It outlines the procedures for cleanliness inspection, which is used for assessing the technical cleanliness of these components and systems. This inspection can be conducted during various stages, such as during the initial evaluation, inspection of incoming and outgoing components, and quality control during manufacturing processes relevant to cleanliness.
The purpose of this standard is to improve the quality and comparability of test results, as well as to establish standardized expressions for cleanliness specifications and test results in the automotive industry. It aims to enhance the informative value of test results while ensuring consistency in the quality chain.
However, ISO 16232:2018 does not cover the detection of filmy contamination such as grease or oils, non-quantifiable particulate detection methods, or the characterization of operating fluids like fuel or oils. Additionally, it does not define specific cleanliness limit values for components or systems. The required level of cleanliness for a particular component or system depends on various individual factors, and guidance for determining limit values can be found in Annex H of the standard.
