Safety of laser products - Part 1: Equipment classification and requirements
Also Known As:
IEC 60825-1:2007 is a standard that focuses on the safety of laser products emitting laser radiation within the wavelength range of 180 nm to 1 mm. It applies to a wide range of laser products used in various industries such as industry, business, entertainment, research, education, medicine, and consumer products. The standard also addresses potential hazards related to fire and electric shock that may arise from laser equipment.
The standard establishes requirements for equipment classification and provides guidelines for manufacturers to ensure product safety. It includes provisions for labeling, instructions, and control measures to minimize unnecessary accessible radiation and improve the control of laser radiation hazards. Compliance with this standard is essential, but it may not be sufficient to achieve the required level of product safety, as laser products must also conform to the applicable performance and testing requirements of other relevant product safety standards.
The standard also clarifies that laser products that are sold to other manufacturers for integration into their systems are not subject to this standard. However, if the laser system within the laser product is operable when removed from the equipment, the requirements of this standard apply to the removable unit. It is worth noting that LEDs have been excluded from the scope of this part of the standard.
