Fire Hazard Testing - Part 2-11: Glowing/Hot-Wire Based Test Methods - Glow-Wire Flammability Test Method for End Products (GWEPT)
Also Known As:
The IEC 60695-2-11:2021 standard provides a test method for evaluating the flammability characteristics of end products. It aims to simulate the thermal stresses caused by an electrically heated source to determine the product's ability to ignite and propagate flames. It is important to note that this standard does not cover fire hazard analysis or flame spread to other products.
The purpose of this standard is to serve as a reference for technical committees involved in the development of safety publications. It is important for these committees to utilize basic safety publications, in accordance with IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51, when preparing safety standards. The third edition of this standard supersedes the second edition published in 2014 and includes significant technical changes.
One notable update in this edition is the addition of numerous terms and definitions relevant to the test method outlined in the standard. These terms and definitions can be found in Clause 3 of the document. It is essential for users of this standard to also refer to IEC 60695-2-10, which should be read in conjunction with this publication.
