Annex 16 Environmental Protection - Volume II - Aircraft Engine Emissions
Also Known As: ICAO AN 16-2
The ICAO AN 16 - Vol. 2:2008 standard outlines regulations for aircraft engine emissions. It includes standards that prohibit the intentional release of raw fuel into the atmosphere from turbine engine-powered aircraft manufactured after February 18, 1982. It also imposes limits on the emission of smoke from turbo-jet and turbofan engines designed for subsonic speeds, as well as those designed for supersonic propulsion.
The standard also incorporates standards for the emission of carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons, and oxides of nitrogen from large turbo-jet and turbofan engines meant for subsonic propulsion and manufactured after January 1, 1986. These standards take into account an aircraft's landing and take-off (LTO) cycle.
Additionally, the Vol. 2 of the Annex includes detailed measurement procedures, instrument specifications, and statistical methods for assessing test results. This ensures standardized and consistent measurement and evaluation of engine emissions.
