CSA C22.2 NO. 187:20 standard is a national standard of Canada developed by CSA Group. The fifth edition of this standard supersedes previous editions published in 2015, 2009, 1986, and 1982. The standard applies to electrostatic air cleaners and other similar ionizing equipment intended for general indoor residential and commercial use. It also covers air ionizer type air cleaners and duct-mounted type electrostatic air cleaners.

The scope of the standard includes equipment for commercial use that intentionally produces ozone in temporarily unoccupied spaces. It applies to cord-connected and permanently-connected equipment operating at nominal supply voltages up to 600V, single-phase or polyphase. The standard also covers portable and duct-mounted air-cleaning devices that incorporate a UV (ultraviolet) lamp emitting UV radiation between 100 and 280 nm (UVC).

However, the standard does not apply to electrostatic air cleaners for use in hazardous locations or in atmospheres defined as hazardous. It also does not apply to air cleaners designed to remove particles other than dust and dirt found in heating and ventilating systems. Additionally, the standard does not specify requirements for the effectiveness of air cleaners in removing airborne particles, and it does not apply to electrostatic air cleaners intended for industrial use or residential air cleaners designed to generate ozone intentionally. Finally, the standard does not cover ozone generators or devices exclusively designed to be connected to air duct systems for treating or conditioning air with ozone.
