Standard EN SampleSafety Requirements for Workplace Walking/Working Surfaces and Their Access; Workplace Floor, Wall and Roof Openings; Stairs and Guardrails Systems
Also Known As: ANSI/ASSP A1264.1-2017
The ASSP A1264.1-2017 standard sets out safety requirements for workplace walking and working surfaces, as well as their access points. These requirements aim to protect individuals from the risk of falling from elevated surfaces such as floors, walls, and roofs. The standard applies to various industrial and workplace settings, including those occupied by workers and used primarily for work purposes.
However, there are certain exclusions to this standard. It does not cover private residences, escalators, moving walks, or floor openings occupied by specific equipment such as elevators or conveyors. It also does not apply to the loading and unloading areas of docks, mobile ladder stands and work platforms, construction scaffolds, or ladders and work areas in construction settings. Additionally, marina and floating tank ladders are also not covered.
The standard recognizes that assembly occupancies may require additional safety requirements not adequately covered by other codes or standards. In such cases, this standard can serve as a minimum safety performance requirement to protect occupants. For construction and demolition operations, ANSI/ASSE A10.18, Safety Requirements for Temporary Floors, Holes, Wall Openings, Stairways, and Other Unprotected Edges provides relevant safety guidelines.
